Evaluation and Risk Management of Electromagnetic fields on oil rig

Abstract

Telecommunications equipment operates in the radiofrequency range of the electromagnetic spectrum, therefore they are considered to be emitters of non-ionizing radiation (RNI). Exposure to electromagnetic fields can have an impact on health and the environment. Field research has shown that, at the oil platform, exposures to RNI are below the limits set by legislation. However, studies that establish such limits are not conclusive enough to guarantee the absence of damages to man and the environment, considering the current reference values.
