Following a short introduction of the General Theory of Terminology, the underlying language theory is criticized by example. This theory-immanent criticism concentrates on the metaphysical langauge view illustrated by the abstractions as a mental process and the relation between the concept and the term as label. the self-contradictions and paradox shown have peculiar consequences for the understanding of the definition. Finally, an alternative is developed on the basis of Constructivism.
