Objectives The aim of the work is to analyze the evolution of the concept of corporate social responsibility and its interpretation in terms of various international institutions. The legal arrangements regulating CSR as well as local economic practice were presented. Material and methods The article uses domestic and foreign literature. Results According to the authors, the basic premise of corporate social responsibility is taking into account the interests of various contractors, in particular local communities and civil society participants in the conducted business activities. It should be connected with the necessity to take into account the interests of the local community in the plans and effects of your investment. Conclusions It was found that many companies engage in activities in the social sphere in a manner consistent with the definition of CSR, while the differences in the activities used are significant, depending on the scale of the organization or the size of the market.
