This article discusses changes in US foreign policy in the 50-60s. The main emphasis is on the use of power and non-power facilities in Washington’s foreign policy in the context of the fight against the expansion of Communist influence. The White House stressed the need to build up their military-technical potential and to expand liberal democratic ideas in the countries of the «third world». The application of the doctrine of «containment» was caused by the arms race, which in turn led to increasing huge number of weapons of mass destruction. US President administrations used a variety of power and non-power facilities to counter the Soviet Union. Particular attention was paid to the development of programs in the fields of economic and military aid. In the context of these initiatives should highlight «Marshall Plan», which became one of the most successful foreign non-power program. Equally important was «Eisenhower Doctrine», which intensified economic cooperation with loyal countries in the region and provided the necessary military assistance to strengthen their defense capabilities; program «New Frontier» John. F. Kennedy, who made a bid to achieve military superiority and attention paid to the problems of the «third world» countries such as Africa and Latin America.
