Activité et emploi en Europe : bilan et perspectives
Abstract
The labour markets of Western European countries have seen major structural transformations over the past three decades. While stagnation in male employment has been the rule in most of these countries, there has been a rapid and accelerating increase in female employment, particularly in part-time work. Along with this feminization, the service industry has emerged as the main job-creating sector. That said, while the trend is widespread, these two phenomena have not occurred on the same scale in all countries. In the future, these countries will face other challenges. The number of jobs will be impacted by demographic changes, all things being equal. Yet here too, the simulations performed in the second part of this study show that this impact varies from one country to another
