This interview with historian Stuart B. Schwartz scroll through some of the main topics of the history of colonial Brazil and of the Iberian Atlantic world, historiographical fields where his work have had an undeniable influence. With the Iberian empires in mind and in a permanent dialogue with the work he has been developing for the past few decades, the north-American historian talks about topics as diverse as slaves, resistance, religious tolerance, and environmental history. The interview was also an opportunity for reflecting upon some of the main challenges that historians are faced today, such as research funding, the uses of historical sources or the management of information.
