Beyond meanings, time and space: the discourse of love in two discursive formations

In this work, we aimed to analyze fragments of songs in English and Portuguese language taking in consideration the notion-concept of discursive formation, derived from the French line Discourse Analysis (AD). As a theoretical-methodological assumption, we considered the article Palavra de amor, by Eni Orlandi (1990), as the basis of our research. The linguistic elements in the verses of the songs You're my number one, Por você and Stars, fragments 1 to 3, have allowed us to affirm that such songs are based on the same discursive formation constituent of the discourse of love, nonsense. In them there is the transcendence of the "fixed in every day" (ORLANDI, 1990) that is made through the declarations and descriptions of impossible or transcendental facts, that extrapolate the limits of the daily life, of the language in conventional and ordinary use. Fragments 4 to 7 are also derived from songs by authors, styles and distinct epochs, but based on the same discursive formation, that of eternal and infinite love. In the songs I will always love you, Amor sem limite, Eu sei que vou te amar and Como é grande o meu amor por você the discourse of love produces the effect of meaning of being able to extrapolate the limits of time and space, projecting itself beyond the here and now. As a general result of the analysis, we concluded that the concept of discursive formation, although very controversial throughout the history of AD, is still very productive.
