Expeditions to the Ivdel Mansi

Abstract

The article reviews the 150-year history of language and culture field research of a northern Mansi group dwelling in Ivdel District, Sverdlovsk Region, as of the mid-19th century onwards. Expeditions undertaken by Hungarian and Russian scholars proved successful thanks to zealous informants interviewed by the researchers.
