Laparoscopic management of Frantz tumour
Abstract
Frantz tumour or solid pseudopapillary tumour (SPT) of the pancreas is a rare clinical entity which predominantly affects young women in their second and third decades of life. Due to paucity of number of cases, the natural history of the disease is not clearly understood. During the past 10 years, there has been a steady increase in the number of diagnosed cases of SPT. It has an excellent prognosis following a complete resection procedure, and laparoscopic techniques have a definite edge over open surgery. Through this case report, we emphasize on the need for heightened awareness of this uncommon pancreatic neoplasm, as it has a low malignant potential and has extremely favourable prognosis if excised completely. Minimal invasive surgery has undoubted advantages in managing such cases.
