The urbanization of big cities, the reduced number and size of landfills, the population growth rate, and the increased use of disposables have generated an expressive volume of waste in the environment. Some waste materials have been reused in recent years, as for example, those generated by the civil construction. However, other types of waste are not experiencing the same situation, such as tire rubbers. One alternative for the reutilization of this material consists of using their powder to replace the fine aggregate in the composition of concrete. This study presents experiments on normal strength concrete mixed with different rates of rubber powder. Results reveal the possibility of obtaining an optimum rate of powder incorporation without harming the compressive and tensile strength of concrete.
