THE INVENTION OF THE SOLAR OF THE BARON. The Brazilian engraving in Curitiba

Abstract

This paper analyzes the main aesthetic and political actions responsible for creating the Centro Cultural Solar do Barão between late 1970’s and early 1980’s, in Curitiba City, Paraná. The Solar do Barão is headquarters of the Museu da Gravura, engraving studios of the Fundação Cultural de Curitiba and the extinct Mostras da Gravura. As a cultural institution, the Solar do Barão was the main organization responsible for education, preservation and diffusion of engraving in Paraná, and it was seen as a leading national centers of institutionalization of engraving in Brazil.
