Objective: To present and analyze the sample laboratory findings of cerebrospinal fluid of patients with lung tumor. Case report and comments: Laboratory data analyzed were derived from the cerebrospinal fluid routine examination, culture, resistant acid-fast bacilli research and cytology of cerebrospinal fluid of a patient with lung cancer, obtained by medical request for investigation meningitis and carried out in a laboratory of the particular network in February 2013. The results of the patient cerebrospinal fluid routine examination showed increase in the number of white blood cells, red blood cells and amount of protein. Proteins high and low glucose are observed in approximately 75% and 40% of cases of neoplastic meningitis, respectively. The measurement of other biochemical markers is less reliable. Despite the importance of routine examination of cerebrospinal fluid, in fact, the gold standard for the diagnosis of neoplastic meningitis is the cytological confirmation of malignant cells in the cerebrospinal fluid. The cytology found the presence of neoplastic cells with cell characteristics. But this test can suffer different influences that cause false positives or false negatives. It needs the emergence of new studies to establish the clinical characteristics of cancer in the absence of neurological signs and symptoms that should be considered for early research MN.
