Abstract

Demetrius Poliorketes was not only a skilled war strategist but was also very attentive to his self-representation: both as a Warlord according to Hellenistic ideology and as a Champion of freedom. In Athens and Delos, the Antigonid king tried to carry out his project, adapting to the pre-existing political and cultural context of these realities. The purpose of this contribution is to highlight some communication strategies developed by Demetrius, focusing in particular on the recovery of ancient Athenian war memories and then observing how these have been reworked for the purposes of Antigonid propaganda.
