Abstract Almost 90% of alcohol in the body should be metabolized in the liver by the alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) enzyme, then its metabolites will be excreted by the kidneys through urine. It is necessary to study the influence of alcohol on the damage of liver and kidney cells among alcoholics in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to compare the differences of liver and kidney cell disturbance between alcoholics and non-alcoholics in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 197 people in Yogyakarta. There were 96 alcoholics and 101 non-alcoholics. The material of the study was taken from venous blood sample of those people, then Kinetic Photometric Tests were administered to have data on the values of the blood-chemical markers of the liver (SGOT, SGPT, and GGT), and the kidney (BUN and serum creatinine). The data then was analyzed and compared with Chi Square Test. There were 83.6% male and 16.4% female of the 96 alcoholics that consumed alcohol for an average of 16 years, with 51.6% of them routine consuming it daily. The kind of alcohol they consumed was single-brand (59.8%). Based on 25 of percentile (GGT); on 50 of percentile (SGOT, GGT); on 75 of percentile (SGPT, GGT) the alcoholic group had higher proportion value on liver marker disturbance than non-alcoholic and the results were statistically significant (p<0.05). Based on 50 and 75 percentiles, the alcoholic group had higher proportion value on kidney marker (BUN) disturbance than non-alcoholic and the results were statistically significant (p<0.05). The alcoholic had higher proportion value on blood-chemical markers (SGOT, SGPT, GGT for liver, and BUN for kidney) than non-alcoholic and the results were statistically significant indicating an important health concern in Indonesia, especially for males.
