Objective To explore the expression and significance of TLR9 and NF-κB in condyloma acuminatum (CA). Methods The streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) immunohistochemistry method was used to measure the expression of TLR9 and NF-κB in 50 cases of CA and 20 normal controls. Results The positive expression rates of TLR9 and NF-κB were 94.00% (47/50) and 98.00%(49/50) in CA tissues, and 10.00% (2/20) and 20.00% (4/20) in the normal controls. The staining intensities of TLR9 and NF-κB in CA were significantly higher (++~+++) than those in normal controls (-~+). Positive expression rates and staining intensities of TLR9 and NF-κB were significantly different between CA and normal controls (P<0.05). Moreover, the positive rates TLR9 and NF-κB staining in CA were positively correlated (r=0.57, P<0.05). Conclusions TLR9 and NF-κB are overexpressed in CA tissues, which is likely associated with the hyperactivation after HPV infection. TLR9 and NF-κB could be involved in the development and the progress of CA.
