LA ‘GUERRA DEI NERVI’. SHELL SHOCK, NEVROSI TRAUMATICHE E PRIMO CONFLITTO MONDIALE

Abstract

Il contributo analizza lo «shell shock», il trauma psichico provocato dalla Prima Guerra Mondiale. Gli «shell shocked man» erano troppo traumatizzati e mentalmente disturbati per continuare a combattere la guerra. Questo articolo, inoltre, tratta la storia delle politiche di trattamento del trauma e le strategie di controllo dell’anormalità nei soldati traumatizzati durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale. Questa ricerca in particolare prende in considerazione i soldati del manicomio di Racconigi, in provincia di Cuneo, tra il 1909 e il 1919. This paper focuses on «shell shock», the psychic trauma provoked by the First World War. The «shell-shocked man» was too traumatized and mentally broken to continue fighting the war. This article also outlines the history of trauma treatment policies and control strategies of the anormality in traumatized soldiers of the First World War, by taking into consideration the soldiers confined to Racconigi Asylum, in the province of Cuneo, between 1909 and 1919.
