La epigrafía en el monacato cisterciense: el ejemplo del monasterio de Santa María de Cañas = Epigraphy in Cistercian Monasticism: the Example of the Monastery of Santa María de Cañas
Abstract
La implantación del Císter en los reinos cristianos tuvo una gran repercusión en el hábito epigráfico. En este trabajo, además de analizar las características generales de la epigrafía cisterciense, se publican las inscripciones medievales del monasterio de Santa María de Cañas. A las inscripciones ya conocidas de este monasterio, se añaden tres invocationes inéditas. Es un ejemplo representativo de los cambios que trae esta reforma en la epigrafía. Se termina con un apartado dedicado a la publicidad en el Císter y se detalla la especificidad de la producción de Cañas en el contexto de la epigrafía cisterciense.The introduction of the Cistercians in the Christian kingdoms had a great impact on epigraphy. In this paper, we will analyse the general characteristics of Cistercian epigraphy as well as publish the medieval inscriptions of the monastery of Santa María de Cañas. Three unknown invocationes of epitaphs are added to the already known register of inscriptions. This is a representative example of changes in epigraphy as a result of the reform. The study concludes with a section on advertising in the Cistercian Order and the specificity of the Cañas production in the context of Cistercian epigraphy.
