In his book The Birth of Tragedy F. Nietzsche set out an influential diagnosis of culture in modern society. In this diagnosis, he put forward a metaphysics of the artist, his theory of art and his conception of the culture and society. With his analyses, Nietzsche described the internal dynamics of the modern culture as what could be called a dialectic of the Enlightenment: According to this dialectics, the realization of the fundamental principles of modern culture necessarily leads to the annihilation of its own social basis
