In this “Translating and Introducing” issue, the introduction explains the reasons behind the choice made by the editorial team to translate “What is modernology ?” by the Japanese urban ethnographer and architect Kon Wajirô (1927); a reflection in Chinese by the political scientist Yu Keping on governmental innovations (2010); and a research in Korean by the sociologist Yang Hyunah on perceptions of aborting practices in South Korea (2013). These translations and their commentaries question geographies and languages of translation, operating epistemologies, as well as scales of comparison, within East Asia and globally.
