Aim: to understand the conception that crack users have in relation to the narcotic, as well as the difficulties in quitting the addiction. Method: qualitative, exploratory research developed in João Pessoa/PB, in 2012, with 20 crack users. Data were collected by a semi-structured form and analyzed according to the Collective Subject Discourse technique. Results: the following core ideas became evident: "I knew it was a drug that would bring losses in every way." "it's bad for the body". "easy access to the drug." "to go back to the same place where he lives." Conclusion: the analysis of the perceptions revealed that crack users were aware of the harms that the addiction brought to them in every possible way
