Déméter Chloê. Bref retour sur une question ouverte

Abstract

For the Hellenists who are interested in Demeter Chloê, this one is not but the goddess “of new wheat”, “of wheat in the blade”, the one who protects the first green shoots of the wheat. Consequently, the Chloia festival, associated with Demeter Chloê and attested namely in some demoi of Attica would be a typically cereal feast. This assertion is sometimes associated with another theory as « évident » as the first which concerns the sacrifice of pregnant animals. Indeed Demeter Chloê could have vaster implications, which exceed the framework of agricultural growth and consumption.
