The aim of this paper is to discuss the Brazilian democracy from an extended time point-of-view, by what it seeks to observe the process of its constitution as a whole, in order to better capture its general movement trends. In the course of the main theoretical analysis of contemporary democracy, as pluralism and deliberationism, it is concluded that the democratization of institutions, culture and social relationsare parts of a wider modernization process of Brazilian society. In this case, the modernization strongly proceeded in economic and material dimension throughout the 20th century, but not in the same level that occurred in political-institutional dimension. Therefore, combining these two movements is the main historical challenge of Brazilian democracy.
