Cuatro años de retrocesos y resistencias: Mujeres y movimiento feminista ante el Gobierno de López Obrador
Abstract
This article analyses the actions of the López Obrador Government, starting from his election in 2018, regarding the feminist movement and the situation of women in Mexico. First, it is necessary to observe the achievements prior to AMLO’s rise to power, in terms of fighting gender inequalities, while not forgetting the persisting problems such as femicides and impunity, which were expected to be addressed by a progressive government. Second, it examines how the public policies implemented after 2018 have worsened the situation of women in all areas: social, labor, economic, legal, etc. The article also analyses the inertia of the López Obrador government in the face of the serious effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on women. For over a decade, feminist mobilizations have gained strength in Latin America, and some battles, such as the legalization of abortion, are being fought in certain places. In Mexico, all hope lies in the ability of feminist collectives, networks, and civil society to counteract setbacks and misguided government measures.
