Investigation the effect of back school educational program in the form Multimedia for improving of observing behaviors and ergonomics principles for preventive of chronic low back pain in nurses

Introduction: Nowadays, more than the past the content of back school was changed and it is involved a wide range of training including, the principles of ergonomics, sports programs, workplace design, changes in work organization and life style. The aim of this study was to evaluate back school educational program designed in the form of multimedia with a focus on performance improvement in the nursechr('39')s prevention of chronic low back pain. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study. It was done on 100 nurses selected multi-stage random sampling method from teaching/government hospitals affiliated with Arak University of Medical Sciences. Out of 100 nurses included in the study, 50 were assigned to the intervention and 50 to the control groups. The data-collection tool was a questionnaire on demographic characteristics and the practice checklist. After collecting the data in the first stage, educational intervention of back school in the from of multimedia was performed. In the second stage (3 months after intervention), the data were analyzed by SPSS (version 20) using the Chi-square test, paired samplechr('39')s t-test and independent t-test. Results: There was no statistically significant between the intervention and control groups in the mean scores of observing behaviors and ergonomics principles for prevention of chronic low back pain before intervention (p>0.05). After accomplishment of back school educational program in the form of multimedia among the nurses in the intervention group there was statistically significant difference between the mean scores compared to the control group (p<0.0001). Conclusions: Back school curriculum in a multimedia format has some advantages that overcame some of the educational barriers on compliance behavior and ergonomics to the improvement and promotion of proactive prevention of low back pain among nurses.
