A comparison between the profile of the systems engineer graduate and the profile required by technology-based companies in Colombia
Abstract
This work first characterizes the professional and job profiles of systems engineers in Colombia. Later, it comparatively analyzes these profiles in the light of international standards by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The goal is to describe the characteristics of this type of undergraduate education, as well as the job opportunities required by the productive sector in the Colombian context. The methodological research process was based on the quantitative paradigm with an analytical-empirical approach and a descriptive correlational type of research with an intentional non-probability convenience sampling of the universities and selected technology-based companies. One of the main findings was that in the field of Computer Science (CS) and Information Systems (IS) the professional profile required by the companies is more demanding than that of systems engineering graduates from Colombian universities.
