The district scale would be the most appropriate for the association of the urban place concept? What is a district? And a urban place? A district is a territorial unit, an intermediary scale between the street's scale and the city's scale, which has a shape and a dimension, essential for the existence of urban reality. It has a limit which circunscribes political-administratively and has also a historical-social contents connected to that physic support which enclose it. By the other side, the urban place concept allies a territorial and a cultural basis, and lived essence fundamentally. It is the point that has the strongly convergence between the social space and the geometric space. It is like the pedestrian's scale, adequated and compatible with human dimentions, possible of being crossed by foot; reachable of knowing by the "use". The probable association of these concepts is the objective of this paper, which divides the same ideas of the master thesis of the author, that has this theme and the Recife's districts of Apipucos and Poço da Panela as case's studies.
