Optimization of the Resilience of Tunisian Hand-made Carpet
Abstract
This paper investigates and reports the effect of construction parameters (yarn and fabric parameters) on the main performances of Tunisian hand-made carpet in order to enhance their resilience and overall quality. Thickness loss of carpet is chosen as representative compression parameters under dynamic loading. Also permanent deformation, elasticity of pile and recovery speed was considered as representative of the appearance characteristics under static loading. Nine woolen hand-knotted carpet samples (symmetric knot) with different structural specifications were produced. By fractional factorial Taguchi type 3k−1 design, the responses were fitted to predictive models using a multiple linear regression method. The models were tested by variance analysis and validated by correlation between measured and predicted values. We determined the optimum settings of hand-made carpet construction parameters enhancing its resilience by contour plotting method.
