Unified derivation of reflectivity for all waves

Abstract

We present a unified method to derive the reflectivity of a plane wave normally incident on an interface. The key idea is to use the flux continuity and the proposed principle of least reflection to acquire the needed generality and conciseness. The result provides a special understanding on the origin of reflection and the half-wave loss.
