This article aims to discuss the process of occupation and development in the Brazilian Amazon, especially issues related to social, environmental, and economic conflicts triggered by this development model in the region. As sources, we opted for bibliographic contributions from renowned authors in the area. The dynamics of occupation and development in the Brazilian Amazon was and continues to be marked by the predatory exploitation of its natural resources. This being the largest tropical forest on the planet and the last spacethat still hassome resources to feed the capitalist system, the Amazon has been abruptly destroyed in recent decades. Not only its space has been replaced by large enterprises, but also its population, those who maintain the traditional way of life and who depend on their land to guarantee their survival. It is concluded that development in the Amazon is a contradictory development because its riches are not converted into local investment. While traditional populations or small producers live in constant fear of losing their land, the capitalist market manages to usurp every resource it finds, not worrying about its finitude.
