Soil layers may behave differently due to the varying soil conditions during the seismic loadings. This variability in soil characteristics can change the cycling loading characteristics of an earthquake. In addition, it affects structures in terms of the ground acceleration amplitudes, frequency contents and the reaction forces to a great extent. In this study, one dimensional site specific analyses were conducted for soils that the new Turkish Building Earthquake Regulation, valid since 2019, mandates (ZF soils) including other soil classes in order to estimate the ground surface behavior. Utilizing 6 well defined boring logs, one dimensional equivalent linear and nonlinear analyzes were conducted using 11 strong ground motion that were scaled to the seismic code. According to the analysis results, it was determined that local soil conditions affect the surface behavior, equivalent linear analysis approach estimates generally larger design parameters, site-specific analyses controls the design parameters and should be used in a wider extend.
