Hermenevtični vidiki prevajanja pri Friedrichu Schleiermacherju

Abstract

Friedrich Schleiermacher’s Hermeneutical Aspects of Translation - The present article aims to examine hermeneutical aspects of translation as found in the work of Friedrich Schleiermacher. Based on an analysis of two of his influential texts concerning translation – the general introduction to his translation of Plato’s works and his lecture On the Different Methods of Translating – I seek to unfold Schleiermacher’s hermeneutical presumptions regarding the translation process. I discuss Schleiermacher’s understanding of the relationship between an individual and his mother tongue, the phenomena of creation within a language and understanding, as well as the significance of translation.
