The author aims to identify the main functions of the author’s concept ‘Food’. In accordance with the goal, the following tasks are set to be solved: 1. to substantiate the relevance of the concept ‘Food’ for modern linguistic research; 2. to study the language representation of the concept ‘Food’ in the text of the story; 3. to identify the role of the concept ‘Food’ in the formation of the semantic space of the story. Method or methodology of the work. The study relies on the following methods and techniques: the comparative description, structural and semantic analysis of lexical units, analysis of vocabulary definitions, historical and etymological commenting. Results of the study. The study revealed that most of the scenes in the story are related to food, which plays a significant role in the formation of the character image structure. The concept is involved in the formation of the concept ‘Body’, which is presented at an explicit level. The concept ‘Food’ forms the basis of the semantic space of the text and participates in the formation of the conceptual opposition ‘Soul – Body’. Practical implications. The results of this study can be useful, in particular, in the study of the cognitive features of literary texts, in interpretive linguistics, in reading special courses on contemporary Russian postmodernism, as well as in the development of lecture and practical courses on text linguistics.
