Research progress of orexin on the regulation of cardiovascular activities

Abstract

Orexin(OX) is a neuropeptide mainly released by the hypothalamus. In the central nervous system, orexin neurons form extensive connections with other neuronal nuclei and participate in energy metabolism, sleep cycle and cardiovascular activity regulation. Orexin plays an important role in the maintenance of normal blood pressure. The high expression of orexin and their receptors is involved in the development of spontaneous hypertension, stress hypertension and other types of hypertension.
