Contributions to the knowledge of Castilian sculpture in the middle years of the 16th century. Juan de Carranza I and the altarpiece of the church of St. Mary Major in Soria
Abstract
One of the most important sculptures of the Bishopric of Osma, in the middle years of the 16th century, is the altarpiece of the church of St. Mary Major in Soria. In these years, some of the most important sculptural works in Soria were requested to prestigious foreign workshops. Such was the case of the altarpiece of the church of St. Mary Major, so far not documented, which was conducted by the assembler Juan de Losada and the prestigious sculptor Juan de Carranza, one of the most important masters in those years working in the city of Burgos.
