ABSTRACT In this essay, I outline what an art history of feminist art criticism might consist of and argue that it should not be confined either to a return to “origin” stories of a few great critics or a focus only on what a critic says about their encounter with an artwork. Instead, I suggest attending to other ways of accessing feminist art criticism’s creation of discourse locally and globally, namely 1) through interviews with artists, 2) in thematic essays which attempt to redefine feminism and art and 3) by examining the focus of feminist art journals and magazines.
