Seducing a Misanthrope: Timon the Philogynist in Aristophanes’ <i>Lysistrata</i>
Abstract
The chorus of women in Lysistrata exploit both myth and rhetoric in their cause when they invoke Timon, whom other sources show to be not a misanthrope but an outsider and rule-breaker.
