Physiognomy and expression of the passions in some libraries of Spanish artists in the Seventeenth century
Abstract
This paper presents a study of the physiognomic texts and treaties that could be found in the libraries of three theoreticians and painters of particular importance during the 17th century: Diego Velazquez, Vicente Carducho and Francisco Pacheco, all of them Spanish doctus artifex. This information allows us to gain a greater understanding about their theoretical training and the physiognomic and pathognomic sources consulted when they composed their works.
