SCREENING OF SIDEROPHORE PRODUCERS AMONG PANTOEA AGGLOMERANS STRAINS
Abstract
Aim. Screening of siderophore-producing strains of P. agglomerans. Methods. The siderophore-producing ability of P. agglomerans strains have been investigated by using of chrome azurol S (CAS) assay. The ternary complex of chrome azurol S, iron(III), hexadecyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide (HDTMA) was used as an indicator. Siderophore production was determined by qualitative estimation of iron utilization in CAS-agar. Results. Bacteria able to synthesize siderophores uptook iron ions (III) from the nutrient medium depending on the intensity production of these metabolites. As a result of screening, 63.2% of the bacterial strains showed high ability to synthesize of these substances. Conclusions. Selected strains can be used in further biotechnological research.
