Our contribution aims to study the sociolinguistic situation of languages in a particular environment in Algeria (paramedical training sector of the city of Jijel). From a study of the representations and attitudes of future paramedics, we will try to understand the sociolinguistic aspect of the languages present among students from a paramedical school in Jijel. To answer our questions, we conducted a field survey by questionnaires with students of the National Institute of Paramedical Higher Education of Jijel. Languages perform different functions in the medical field. In our speaker’s imagination, standard Arabic is the language of the formal domains (such as administrative, legal and media writings), dialectal Arabic and Berber are languages of daily communication inside and outside school. French and English fulfill the function of teaching language for scientific subjects.
