This article aims to retrace some moments of poetry in which the theme of melancholy emerges alongside the comic figure of the clown as the alter ego of the poet. From the initial cue offered by Jean Starobinski (Portrait de l’artiste en saltimbanque) we will investigate how France (through Baudelaire) offered the theme to Remigio Zena, Gian Pietro Lucini, Corrado Govoni.
