Relevance. Despite the theoretical and practical significance, the problems of the social capital of people with disabilities in Russian academic science are not sufficiently represented. The project «The role of social capital when obtaining vocational education for disabled people of certain nosological groups» has scientific novelty: the development of the theoretical and methodological foundations for studying the problem of the social capital of people with disabilities; identification of the specifics of the social capital characteristics of students with disabilities; measuring the impact of social capital on the success of vocational training for students with disabilities. Purpose: development of methodological approaches to the study of the role of social capital when obtaining vocational education for disabled people of certain nosological groups, which significantly expands ideas in this area, opens up new aspects of the problem that were not previously known. Methods: the method of theoretical analysis – hypothetical-deductive method of study, the essence of which is to create a system of deductively related hypotheses, from which statements about empirical facts are derived. Results: systematization and development of ideas about the social capital of students with disabilities and its role in learning; assessment of the role and specifics of social capital in learning; identification of the relationship between the socio-cultural environment, social capital and the civic activity of persons with disabilities; development of recommendations to enhance the role and use of the social capital of persons with disabilities in vocational education. The expected results correspond to the level of world achievements in the sociological branch of science. Conclusions. The study being developed corresponds to the direction of the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation – the possibility of effective response of Russian society to great challenges, taking into account the interaction of man and nature, man and technology, social institutions at the current stage of global development, including using the methods of the humanities and social sciences.
