Highlights Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cancer. Low-grade systemic inflammation is associated with the progression and development of MetS. The Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII), a measure of the inflammatory potential of diets, is associated with MetS. A high DII score is expected to be associated with a higher risk of chronic diseases, including MetS.
