Regarding geotectonic zoning of crystalline basement of Ukrainian shield

Abstract

The article shows that transition to geotectonic zoning of Ukrainian shield – as a basis for clarification of stratigraphic correlation of Precambrian formations, which was declared in the decisions of Precambrian section of NSC Ukraine (2003), did not happen. In reality the old geological zoning just with new names of tectonic areas left. Instead, the most reasonable today is geotectonic zoning scheme as the only basis for stratigraphic and tectonic theories, combining six megablocks – Volyn, Pobuzhzhya, Bug-Rosynsk, Ingul, Seredneprydniprov’ya and Pre-Azov, and four suture zones – Brusylivs’k, Golovanivs’k, Inhulets-Kryvyi Rig and Orikhiv-Pavlograd which also proposed for approval.
