Lettere a Giovanni Bianchi
Abstract
The letters of the Neapolitan correspondents with Giovanni Bianchi are here transcribed. The subjects dealt with are varied: they range from archaeological and numismatic curiosities to book exchanges and editorial notices, from requests for medical advice to complaints about the inefficient and corrupt postal system. Small curiosities include health remedies offered to friends, diseases such as syphilis and measles forcing people to flee the city and retreat to the countryside, the pleasures of gluttony such as the long wait for mortadella and the need for warm clothing to face the winter cold.
