Rethinking the approach to organizing exhibitions and methods of interpreting museum collections, training staff and adapting to new requirements of the market and visitors are currently the main activities of national and regional museums in the Republic of Moldova. The interpretation of museum objects is of great importance for the effective operation of the museum, combining material and non-material aspects. In order for the perception of cultural values to be the most complete and leave a lasting impression on visitors, their interpretation in the museum should evoke positive emotions, it should captivate and encourage research; the visitor should not remain just a passive observer. Museums of Trento and Ferrara (Italy) can serve as an example of successful experience in the art of interpreting cultural values; they approach organizing exhibitions as setting up performances using theatrical techniques: light and sound, text, entertainment and animation. They invite visitors to take part in the performance, allowing them to touch the exhibits if this does not contradict the requirements for their preservation. Studying the experience of Italian museums, with their high level of interpretation and promotion of cultural heritage, allows us to identify a number of measures that must be taken to develop and professionalize this activity in museums of the Republic of Moldova.
