Attitudes and practices of children familiars burning victim by scalding

Objective: To describe the attitudes and practices of family members of children who are victims of scalding burn hospitalized in a reference unit. Methods: Descriptive study, qualitative approach, performed at the Hospital da Restauração, Recife-PE. Data collected through recorded individual interviews were analyzed using the Bardin thematic modality. Results: Eight family members / caregivers aged 19 to 59 years old participated, the female being the most prevalent. Most of the children were under four years old and all accidents occurred at home. From the analysis of the speeches three thematic categories emerged. Final considerations: Involuntary actions of the adult can cause accidents, the management and prevention of burns still needs to be the target of health education actions of nurses, with a view to safety and protective autonomy of the child.
