4 years with artificial respiration. A case report
Abstract
45 years old white male patient healthy till the age of forty. AT this age he began to feel weakness, losse of weight, marked muscular strength decrease of lower extremities which impeded him walking adequately, and moreover presented fasciculations. The patient was attended in the neurological services of clinical- surgical hospital “Arnaldo Milián Castro” of Santa Clara in 1999. In 2001 was admitted in the intermidiate therapy unit for presenting dyspnea, so it was decided to acople him to a mechanical fan servo-900-d in control volume. The patient presented also some symptoms and damage signs in the motor neuron of the spinal cord. The patient was submitted to some studies such as muscular biopsy, electromiograpy and also to the study of sensitive motor nervous conduction what made possible to diagnose an amiotrophic lateral sclerosis. The patient kept this mechanical ventilation during 4 years and 4 months using the same fan above mentioned.
