The proper waste management has become the imperative of the modern society. Waste management, regardless of its type, must be aligned with the principles of the environmental protection. Surely, the proper management of packaging waste and its reduction through a reuse or recycling contributes to the preservation and protection of the environment, but also to the balance with the economic development of the society. In addition to the necessary theoretical explanations and analysis of certain legal solutions, the paper deals with the analysis of the current strategic approach in the field of waste management, as well as the analysis of the work of authorized operators and the factual situation in Republic of Serbia in the domain of recycling of packaging waste.
