Integration: A supply chain view
Abstract
Integration has different connotations to different disciplines. Here, we evaluate integration from a supply chain perspective. Organizations neither want, nor need to be integrated with their suppliers and supply chains for every product they buy. What, exactly, does supply chain integration entail? For what kinds of acquisitions is integration appropriate, and how is it employed? Integration is also a concept applicable to internal functions, as well as external relationships. Examples of supply chain integration, successful and not so successful are discussed as a means to indicate essential policies, procedures and practices necessary for true integration.
