From a geohistorical and landscape approach, the text presents the appropriation and management of the endorheic cuenca of the Laguna Bustillos, in the semi-desert north of Mexico. In particular, the arrival and establishment of Mennonite communities, along with the establishment of ejidos and colonias agricolas, in the context of the post-Mexican Revolution Agrarian Reform, are at the origin of specific agricultural landscapes and practices. between hyper-technical agriculture and traditional agriculture. These various forms of agriculture develop, in a context of marked global changes, a high vulnerability to water resources. Recently, the establishment of the OPSE, Socio-Ecological Participatory Observatory, “Cuenca de la Laguna Bustillos” accompanied by the Red Internacional Para la Sustentabilidad de Zonas Áridas (RISZA) aims to build the “Sustentabilidad Hídrica de la Cuenca Bustillos y su Acuífero” based on social participation and ecosystem services related to human well-being and seems to constitute a tool for the integration of diverse agricultural communities.
